Commute to work: 9 minutes. Commute home: 45 minutes. And I get off early in the afternoon. These people are screwed.
When summer hits, this will be solid black at this time of day.

Dude, that's the I5. It's always backed up.

Really though, I avoid 5 like the plague between 5am and 11pm. Surface streets are more fun than traffic, potholes be damned.

Not getting better anytime soon... The NW is growing way to fast for the DOT to keep up.

Don't underestimate 405, my friend. I believe it will surpass the 5 in five-ness very soon.

I had the misfortune to hit some of that one year when I was driving from my house in Spokane to Ocean Shores. I timed it exactly wrong and hit I5 between Tacoma and Olympia during the afternoon rush. I've also hit the same stretch when driving from Portland to Seattle. Evidently citizens of Pugetopolis believe that forward movement is overrated.

405 at the Renton curves has been hell for 20 years.

And the DOT is dangerously stupid as it is. I do love they actually fix the damn roads. But some of their solutions for congestion are terrifying. Not to mention this summer when 405 goes from carpool to good-to-go passes or whatever combination...

The 405 is for bed-wetters who like Coldplay. The problem with Washington highways is that they're designed for bad weather when about half the cars are using them. Washington just needs to get its shit together.

Seriously... I for one am terrified for when they tear the viaduct down for a toll only tunnel with less capacity that nobody is going to use. As if Western and First weren't crowded enough.

Well having cars shoot on north of Coal Creek right after the right lane ends is just a wonderful bottle effect. And then in downtown Bellevue where people drive recklessly to get to whatever of the 12 offramps that are stuffed in.

As usual, policies and roads in Washington answer exactly one question: "How can we make get more money out of you?"

I don't even take 405 anymore. I just weave through backroads. Have you noticed the quality of our freeways are shit too? Huge ruts from semis, broken joints and huge holes!

north bound 405 isn't gridlocked - sweet! (I won't reminisce about when you were able to run 80 between Seattle and Tacoma anytime other than rush hour.)

Mmmm Ocean Shores is very nostalgic for me. Although the drive through Aberdeen is just depressing as hell.
Spokane to Ocean Shores sounds like a lovely drive (on Sunday).

405 is under perpetual construction, with seemingly no improvement and very abrupt lane edges.
And you'd have to live in northeast Bothell to utilize any backroads... Perhaps somewhere between Locust and 45th Ave Se... Am I getting warm?

Well, you know how that cross state drive is. From the Spokane County line until Cle Elum there isn't a hell of a lot to look at, but it's its own kind of zen. Ocean Shores is a great destination, though. I did discover that the traffic in to it can be pretty brutal too when they decide to open clamming for the weekend.

We always go the first week of June — right before summer break for schools. Although it will rain half the time :)

Wow, not even close. Not north, not east, not even in Sno County!
